Get the Most out of Monolithic Zirconia Shading – A Webinar

Achieving consistent zirconia shade matching can be an ongoing challenge for any lab because not every coloring system works the same on every zirconia. However, if the proper technique is applied routinely, it can produce very satisfying esthetic results every time.

With the knowledge that only some combinations of material/colorants work well, we decided to have Al Fillastre, CDT, a technician experienced with different zirconia brands, do an extensive research project, testing several popular liquid coloring systems with several popular zirconia brands. The results were very interesting. First, he found that each zirconia material had a different shading result with each colorant. In addition, he found that while most manufacturers recommended soaks of up to two minutes, all of the color penetration that was going to happen happened within a 5 second period! 

I then asked Al to develop a specific, almost paint-by-number technique to ensure that Vericore zirconia materials accurately (and consistently) match the intended shade. He did. The result is an easy, consistent shade match. It can be done with any of the zirconia systems, with most colorants. It generally requires adjusting the ratios of the liquids.

As a result of his intensive testing, Whip Mix’s Vericore family of zirconia products are accurately and easily shaded with several coloring systems, following an easy step-by-step protocol. An understanding of the handling requirements of the materials is necessary to achieve consistency, so we had him share this technique with our customers in a webinar.
